Biography

Brian Holzman is an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University in the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development and the Department of Sociology. His research focuses on the pathways from middle school to college, particularly regarding educational equity. He examines the structural barriers faced by first- and second-generation immigrants, English learners, and socioeconomically marginalized students. Holzman's ongoing projects include a study funded by the Brady Education Foundation, which investigates how school structures facilitate English language acquisition for recent immigrant students, and another study on STEM pathways and state policy changes related to high school graduation requirements. Before joining academia, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Rice University's Houston Education Research Consortium, where he collaborated with local school districts and conducted practitioner-oriented research. Holzman earned both his M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology of Education and Higher Education Administration from Stanford University, and he holds a B.S. in Sociology with a focus on Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
