Biography

Brian F. Mullan, MD, MMEd, FACR, FCCP, joined the faculty in fall 2020 after a 25-year tenure at the University of Iowa, where he held several leadership roles, including Director of Thoracic Cardiovascular Imaging, Director of CT General Radiography, and Clinical Director of PACS. His academic passion lies in medical education, serving as the Director of Medical Student Education for 9 years and Vice-Chair of Education in the Department of Radiology for 11 years. Mullan also contributed to the Carver College of Medicine as Chair of the Education Council for 16 years. Nationally, he was a member of the Education Committee for the RSNA for 9 years and is currently collaborating with them to establish a Global Learning Center at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. He has received numerous accolades for his teaching, including the Collegiate Teaching Award and the Myers Family Professor Medical Education title. His current research interests focus on enhancing distance learning and leveraging lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic to support education in resource-limited countries. Outside of academia, Mullan enjoys managing his family’s tree farm and experimenting in his basement workshop.
