Dr. Brian Strong

Biography

Brian Strong is an Assistant Professor in the School of Linguistics and Language Studies at Carleton University. His research focuses on language vocabulary learning, cognitive linguistics, and cognitive psychology perspectives. His work examines the effects of retrieval practice on the learning of idiomatic expressions and phrasal verbs among non-native speakers. Dr. Strong holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from Victoria University of Wellington and a Master’s degree in TESOL from the University of Birmingham. With over twenty years of experience teaching English in secondary schools and higher education institutions across various countries including Japan and New Zealand, he has taught courses such as English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English for Specific Purposes (ESP), and English Language Training for Officials (ELTO). Dr. Strong is recognized for his contributions to the field of applied linguistics, particularly in relation to second foreign language teaching, curriculum methodology, and second language acquisition.
