Biography

Caitlin Gormley is a lecturer in criminology at the University of Glasgow's School of Social and Political Sciences. She is a member of the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research as well as the Glasgow Centre for Disability Research. Caitlin joined the University of Glasgow in June 2017 and previously worked as a lecturer in prison-based learning centres in Scotland from 2015 to 2017. She coordinates a university-prison reading group that brings members together to explore literature on a broad range of topics. Caitlin has obtained a PhD in Criminology (2017), an MRes in Criminology (2012), and a BA (Hons) in Sociology, Anthropology, and Hispanic Studies (2011) from the University of Glasgow. Her research interests include inequalities caused by criminal justice systems, experiences of punishment, violence, vulnerability, and injustice, as well as inclusive research practices. Caitlin has been involved in several funded research projects addressing themes such as repeat violent victimization in Scotland and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on marginalized communities. She is also interested in supervising research projects in broad areas related to vulnerability, harm, and systemic injustice.
