Dr. Carlos Rodriguez

Biography

Carlos Xavier Rodriguez received a BA from Pitzer College, an MA from the University of California – Los Angeles, and a PhD from Northwestern University. He has previously held appointments at the University of South Florida, the University of Iowa, and Ohio State University. An expert in music education, Rodriguez is a general music specialist who teaches undergraduate methods courses, a student teaching seminar, and graduate courses focusing on the history and philosophy of music education, as well as creative thinking in music. He is recognized as a leading authority in popular music within music education, having published numerous articles and presented conference papers both nationally and internationally. His work encompasses themes such as musical development, cognition, musicality, expression, and popular music culture. Professor Rodriguez has contributed to various textbook series and book chapters and serves on the editorial review board for 'Update: Applications of Research in Music Education.' He remains active in public school systems as a musician, consultant, and educator.
