Biography

Carmela Colella is an Associate Professor and the Chair of the Italian Studies Program at Brock University. She earned her BSc, MA, and PhD from the University of Toronto. Her research interests are in foreign language teaching and learning, the use of technology in humanities scholarship, language pedagogy, and 19th century Italy. Colella is engaged in a database project containing unpublished letters of 19th century Italian authors, aimed at exploring and understanding the individual works and the artistic environment of that time. She has contributed to various publications including a chapter on communicative competence in 'Teaching and Learning Languages' and translations in contemporary perspectives on Ariosto. Colella teaches several courses including Introductory and Intermediate Italian, Translation Language Practice, and the use of information technology in foreign languages.
