Biography

Carol Apollonio is a Research Professor in Slavic Eurasian Studies at Duke University. She specializes in Russian literature, Russian-Japanese translation, and language pedagogy, and has experience as a conference-level interpreter for U.S. Government nuclear weapons negotiations. Apollonio's recent books include 'Simply Chekhov' (2020) and several translations of Alisa Ganieva's novels: 'Offended Sensibilities' (2022), 'Bride Groom' (2018), and 'Mountain Wall' (2015). Additionally, she co-edited 'Chekhov's Letters' with Radislav Lapushin in 2018. Her academic contributions also feature prominently in recent articles and publications, including a journal article in TLS-The Literary Supplement titled 'Chekhov Becomes Chekhov', exploring the emergence of literary genius.
