Biography

Dr. Carol Hulls, P.Eng., is the Associate Chair Teaching and an Associate Professor in the Teaching Stream at the Department of Mechanical Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Her role primarily involves supporting instructors within the department to improve teaching and learning across a wide range of areas, mentoring new faculty members, advocating for innovative teaching methods, and promoting reflective practices aimed at enhancing pedagogical effectiveness. She has taught numerous courses relating to programming, sensor fusion, and computer hardware since 1999, impacting thousands of students in the field of engineering. In recognition of her contributions to teaching, she received the Brightspace Innovation Award for Teaching and Learning in 2016 for her development of open-ended design activities. Throughout the pandemic, she adapted diligently by live-streaming lectures from home and is now glad to have returned to in-person teaching. Her research interests include engineering education and experiential learning, with a focus on the use of technology in teaching methodologies.
