Biography

Carola Richter has been a professor of International Communication at Freie Universität Berlin since 2017, after serving as a junior professor from 2011. Her research and teaching focus on media systems and communication cultures, particularly in the Arab region, as well as foreign reporting, public diplomacy, media and migration, and media literacy. She leads the DFG network 'Cosmopolitan Communication Studies' and is the editor of the Global Media Journal – German Edition, along with several book series on international communication. Richter coordinates the AREACORE network, which conducts collaborative research and events with nine Arab partner universities. Her funded research projects include work on media transformation and gender diversity, totaling around 2.1 million euros in third-party funds. She has authored significant works on Arab media systems, and published numerous articles concerning media's role in migration and exile, conflict reporting in the Middle East, and globalization issues in media contexts.
