Violist Caroline Coade is passionate about teaching and helping students achieve success on the concert stage. In Fall 2023, she received a promotion to Associate Professor of Viola at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD). Her prize-winning students include winners of the 2019 and 2022 Sphinx Competition Senior Division, a semi-finalist in the 2019 Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition, and a top prizewinner at the 2019 Young Artist Competition. Coade's students have secured positions such as the Diversity Fellowship with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the African-American Fellowship with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. In 2022, she received the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award for her contributions to DEI at SMTD. Coade serves as the 3rd chair violist for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and has performed with prestigious ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra and New York Philharmonic. She has taught masterclasses at renowned institutions and has participated in multiple summer music festivals, contributing significantly to arts education advocacy. In 2016, she was named Artistic Director for the WRCJ 90.9FM Classical Brunch and received the Crystal Microphone Award for her advocacy work in the classical music scene in Metro Detroit.
