Catherine (Cammie) McBride is currently the Associate Dean for Research at the College of Health and Human Sciences and a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science at Purdue University. Formerly the Choh-Ming Li Professor of Psychology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, she has served as the past President of the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading (SSSR) and the founding President of the Association for Reading and Writing in Asia (ARWA). Her work primarily focuses on literacy and writing cultures. McBride has served on the Scientific Advisory Board for the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and the Publications Committee for the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD). She is the author of more than 250 peer-reviewed journal articles and has edited six books. Notably, she wrote "Children’s Literacy Development: A Cross-Cultural Perspective on Learning to Read and Write" (2016) and "Coping with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and ADHD: A Global Perspective" (2019). In 2021, she was awarded five million dollars in research funding to further investigate literacy and mathematics learning, integrating molecular and behavioral genetics, neuroscience, and cognitive-linguistic skills with online digitalized testing tools for children. Her work continues at Purdue University, where she currently co-leads a 1.5 million dollar grant from Lilly to improve teacher training in literacy education.
