Biography

Cathy Culot is a Lecturer in French at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she primarily teaches intermediate-level French. She serves as the Faculty Co-Director of the MIT-Belgium Program. Before joining MIT, she completed her Master’s studies at Wichita State University. Culot also held a position as an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Puerto Rico, where she taught various French courses. Her published work focuses on topics such as bilingualism, multiculturalism, and multilingual countries, particularly in relation to Belgium, and has appeared in the International Journal of Arts and Sciences. She has developed an online multimedia archive titled “The Heart of Europe: Belgium Unveiled” and an interactive digital teaching module called Tintin Blue Lotus, designed to introduce cultural representation found in 1930s Francophone European media. Culot's pedagogical interests include the integration of arts in teaching language and culture, bilingualism, cultural identity, and the role of visual media in language education.
