Dr. Cecilia Wallerstedt

Biography

Cecilia Wallerstedt is a Professor at the University of Gothenburg, where she serves as the Pro-Dean of the Faculty of Arts and primarily leads the research project FILUR, which focuses on developing imagination capacity in early childhood education. Her research interests include the interplay between teaching and learning in music and aesthetic subjects, particularly in preschool and upper-secondary settings. She investigates how teachers interact with children in the classroom and strives to understand how skilled educators can enhance children's learning experiences. Wallerstedt is involved in various projects related to play-responsive teaching and has supervised PhD students in the graduate school of Education. Her academic contributions are reflected in her publications and involvement with national and Nordic networks for artistic vision and preschool pedagogy. With a rich background as an upper-secondary school teacher in mathematics and music, she defended her dissertation in 2010, which examined children's abilities to discern musical aspects for effective teaching in preschool. Furthermore, she has contributed significantly to research on play-responsive education and the empowerment of children's voices and perspectives in learning environments.
