Biography

Chandra L. Muller is a Professor at The University of Texas at Austin, holding the Alma Cowden Madden Centennial Professorship and the Ashbel Smith Professorship. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on how schools and education shape life-course outcomes related to work, health, cognitive aging, and inequalities. Specifically, she investigates the impacts of gender, race, ethnicity, social class, disability, and immigration status on educational experiences and disparities. Currently, she leads a nationally representative longitudinal study, the High School and Beyond (HS&B), which includes interviews with high school students and follows them through their lives. This research includes the collection of various data types, including anthropometric measurements and biological samples. Muller's work is also noted for examining the effects of education on cognitive aging and advocating for educational policy changes that acknowledge these disparities.
