Garoian received a B.A. and M.A. in Art from California State University, Fresno, and a Ph.D. in Education from Stanford University. In addition to numerous scholarly articles featured in leading journals of art education, Garoian is the author of 'Performing Pedagogy: Art Politics' (1999) and co-author of 'Spectacle Pedagogy: Art, Politics, Visual Culture' (2008) and 'Prosthetic Pedagogy Art: Embodied Research Practice' (2013), all published by State University of New York Press. His cultural work has been supported by various granting agencies, including the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts, Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundations, and Getty Education Institute for the Arts.
