Charles Settle is the Principal Percussionist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, joining the orchestra in the 2017/2018 season. Before this, he was a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra from 2004 to 2017 and served as the Percussion Assistant Principal Timpanist for the New York Philharmonic during the 2008-2009 season. His performances include collaborations with prestigious ensembles like the Berlin Staatskapelle Orchestra at Carnegie Hall and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. In addition to his orchestral work, Charles has participated in various summer music festivals such as the Sun Valley Summer Symphony and the Toronto Summer Music Festival. An experienced educator, Charles has conducted masterclasses at numerous institutions including the University of Toronto and the Cleveland Institute of Music. He joined the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music faculty and the University of Toronto in 2018. As an Artist Clinician for Zildjian Cymbals, Freer Percussion, and Pearl/Adams Drums, Charles continues to be an influential figure in percussion education.
