Biography

Chelsea R. Lide is an Assistant Professor in Work and Organization Studies at MIT Sloan School of Management. Her research focuses on how employees develop beliefs based on social information and how these beliefs influence perceptions and behaviors towards others in the workplace. A significant part of her work investigates the concept of second-order prejudice, defined as beliefs about others’ prejudices, which are crucial but often overlooked drivers of discrimination within organizations. Lide's primary line of inquiry examines the processes through which beliefs about others' prejudices can impact decision-making in personnel actions, such as hiring, promotion, and job assignment. Her dissertation on second-order prejudice was named runner-up for the 2023 INFORMS/Organization Science Dissertation Proposal Competition. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a Program Manager at Google, where she was instrumental in leading the global candidate experience program to support the company's diversity hiring initiatives. She holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Stanford's Graduate School of Business and a B.A. in Psychology (with honors) from Harvard College.
