Biography

Cheng Luo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Brock University. He obtained his Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Manitoba. Before coming to Canada, he taught English as a lecturer at Wuhan University in China. His academic expertise includes theoretical linguistics and applied linguistics. Luo has researched various aspects of language learning and teaching, focusing on the effects of first language (L1) on second language (L2) acquisition, error analysis, and corrective feedback. His publications reflect his interests in linguistic preferences, cultural studies, and translation theories. He has presented at over 100 regional, national, and international conferences, covering topics such as functional linguistics and language acquisition. Luo has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, including English grammar, sociolinguistics, and language acquisition theory. He has also taken on several administrative roles, including Coordinator of Grammar and Academic Coordinator for TESL Ontario. He has collaborated with visiting international scholars and has been actively involved in promoting academic exchanges with institutions worldwide.
