Biography

Chiara De Franco is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Southern Denmark and the Director of the Centre for War Studies. Her research focuses on constructivist practice theoretical approaches to International Relations and International Political Communication. She is the Principal Investigator of the Protection Complexity project funded by the Danish Research Council, which investigates EU, UN, and African Union practices related to the protection of civilians in conflict zones such as Mali, the Central African Republic, and Somalia. De Franco has authored the book 'Warning War,' which received the 2021 ISA Annual Book Award, and she has published numerous academic articles on media power and the transformation of warfare. She previously worked as a research fellow at King’s College London, where she contributed to various ERC-funded projects. Her professional training includes experience with the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations and memberships in various academic boards and associations, including the Nordic International Studies Association. De Franco’s educational background includes a Master’s and Ph.D. from the European University Institute and a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from King’s College London.
