Professor Dr. Chris Snijders

Biography

Chris Snijders is a Full Professor and Chair of Sociology Technology Innovation at Eindhoven University of Technology. His research interests include the role of experts and expertise in model-based decision-making and decision support, examining how computer models can outperform human experts in various tasks. He explores the usage of computer models for prediction and questions the limitations of their application in real-life scenarios. Another area of focus is 'life online,' where he investigates how interactions within virtual worlds affect people’s behavior and learning processes. Moreover, Snijders studies social sciences through formal models, including game-theoretical and statistical approaches, as well as the implications of technology in decision-making, trust, cooperation, and nudging to promote sustainable choices among individuals. His academic background includes an MSc in Mathematics specializing in game theory from Utrecht University and a Ph.D. with honors in Sociology from the same institution, where he also spent time as a postdoc.
