Biography

Christina Frei specializes in constructivist curriculum design, intercultural communication, and the diverse applications of technology in teaching and learning world languages and cultures. She co-authored the textbook for introductory and intermediate German language and culture: Augenblicke German Film, Media Texts, 2E, 2023. Frei has received national teaching awards recognizing her contributions to Language Teacher Education, including the 2017 AATG Outstanding German Educator Award and the 2017 ACTFL-NYSAFLT Anthony Papalia Award for Excellence in Teacher Education. She was awarded the SAS Dean's Award for Distinguished Teaching by Affiliated Faculty, and as the Executive Director of Language Instruction in the School of Arts & Sciences, oversees language instruction within the educational community. She is involved in securing grants to support language education and conceptualizes and directs the Fulbright pre-semester orientation for foreign language teaching assistants. Frei has implemented curricular innovations through international collaborations and projects focused on research into effective theme-based constructivist curricular design in post-secondary language education. Her research interests include second language acquisition and digital pedagogy.
