Biography

Christine Beier is an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley. Her academic journey culminated in a PhD in Linguistic Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2010. With a research focus on language documentation and revitalization, she has dedicated herself to humanitarian work and community service projects in the Peruvian Amazon since 1995. Throughout her career, she has worked with various indigenous groups such as the Nanti, Matsigenka, Iquito, Máíjuna, Sápara, Andoa/Katsakáti, Dekyunawa/Muniche, and Omagua people, focusing on their language documentation and revitalization projects. In 1996, she co-founded the Cabeceras Aid Project with Lev Michael, which facilitates the integration of research with community service projects. Beier's work centers on the complementary areas of language documentation and revitalization.
