Biography

For decades cellist Christopher Costanza has enjoyed a varied career as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. A winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and a recipient of the prestigious Solo Recitalists Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Mr. Costanza has performed with wide critical acclaim across the United States, Canada, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Australia, New Zealand, China, Korea, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Romania, and Hungary. His summer festival appearances include Marlboro, Yellow Barn, Santa Fe, Taos, Chamber Music Northwest, Seattle, Bay Chamber Concerts, and the Ottawa Bravo! Vail Valley Festivals. Since joining the St. Lawrence String Quartet (SLSQ) in 2003, he tours and records extensively with the ensemble, performing approximately 100 concerts annually worldwide. Additionally, he is an advocate for contemporary music, regularly collaborating with notable composers such as John Adams, Jonathan Berger, and Osvaldo Golijov. His recordings include numerous chamber music works and solo albums, and he has received Grammy nominations. Alongside his musical endeavors, Mr. Costanza is passionate about cooking, running, and architecture, often exploring local cuisine and innovative architecture during his travels. His familial ties also reflect his musical artistry, as his wife is a violinist and his daughter plays the viola.
