Biography

Christopher Lukasik specializes in literary and visual cultural history of the eighteenth and nineteenth-century Atlantic world. He has received twenty-five fellowships and presented over 100 papers across multiple continents. His work has been published in 20 journals and edited collections. Lukasik is the author of 'Discerning Characters: Culture and Appearance in Early America' and is currently completing a monograph entitled 'Image and Text: Literature, Illustration, and the Rise of Mass Visual Culture in Nineteenth-Century America'. His selected publications include essays on the culture of illustration, visuality in race, and the impact of drawing books. His research also includes a focus on American literature and art history from 1900, early American studies, visual studies and visual theory, and illustration studies.
