Biography

Christopher McComb is an Associate Professor and Director of the Human+AI Design Initiative at Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering. He previously served as an Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs at Penn State, where he directed the Center for Research and Design Innovation, leading teams in the Technology and Human Research Engineering Design Group. He holds dual B.S. degrees in Civil and Mechanical Engineering from California State University-Fresno, and he earned both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, where he was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. His research interests encompass Human Social Systems, Design Engineering, Machine Learning in Engineering Design, Human-AI Collaboration and Teaming, and STEM Education, receiving funding from the NSF, DARPA, and private corporations. McComb is also involved in several educational initiatives that focus on integrating AI tools into engineering education to enhance teamwork and improve manufacturing processes.
