Dr. Christopher Schad

Biography

Christopher Schad is an academic with a strong focus on Japanese language instruction, having developed innovative teaching methodologies such as flipped teaching and the integration of technology and media into language education. His research interests include the study of kanji learning methodologies, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing language acquisition processes. Schad obtained his JD from the University of Michigan Law School in 2013, following his MA in Japanese Studies from the same institution in 2009. He also holds a BA in Linguistics and Languages from Swarthmore College, earned in 2005. His diverse educational background supports his teaching philosophy that emphasizes practical applications of language skills. As a faculty member in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan, Schad contributes to the academic community by sharing his expertise and passion for language education. He is known for fostering an interactive and engaging learning environment, which encourages students to explore complex linguistic concepts effectively.
