Claire Ménard obtained her PhD from Rutgers University Paris 8 in September 2016. She is a Senior Lecturer in the French Department of Romance Studies. She received her Maîtrise in Anglophone Studies from Université de Bourgogne, Dijon, France, in 2007. Claire spent a year as a French intern at Colgate University and attended a summer French school at Middlebury College, which influenced her decision to continue her academic career in the U.S. She obtained her M.A. in French Literature from Miami University, Ohio, in 2009 and subsequently spent a year as a Teaching Associate at Brown University while applying to the doctoral program at Rutgers in New Brunswick, NJ. Her current research interests lie in 20th – 21st century literature and films, with a particular focus on hypermodernism theory. Claire works on Senegalese and West African films as well as French films that address issues related to social classes, immigration, and refugees. She is also interested in language acquisition and the use of technologies in the language classroom. As a film specialist, Claire teaches the history of French and Francophone films and film theory. Additionally, she coordinates French language courses, including the Intermediate French course level (2090) and beginners' levels (1210 and 1220).
