Biography

Claire Ménard obtained her PhD from Rutgers University Paris 8 in September 2016. She is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Romance Studies at Cornell University. Ménard received her Maîtrise in Anglophone Studies from Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France, in 2007. She spent a year as a French intern at Colgate University and attended a summer French school at Middlebury College, which influenced her decision to continue her academic career in the U.S. She earned an M.A. in French Literature from Miami University, Ohio, in 2009. Ménard has worked as a Teaching Associate at Brown University while applying to the doctoral program at Rutgers in New Brunswick, NJ. Her current research interests focus on 20th to 21st-century literature and films, especially hypermodernism theory. She works on Senegalese West African films and French films that address issues related to social classes, immigration, and refugees. Ménard is also interested in language acquisition and the use of technologies in the language classroom. As a film specialist, she teaches the history of French and Francophone films and film theory, and coordinates French language courses, including Intermediate French and courses for beginners.
