Clare’s research draws on ten years of experience working as a research evaluation practitioner with non-governmental organizations and activist groups in the UK and East Central Africa. Her work focuses on developing practice-based evidence for change, considering the potential of people, organizations, and institutions. A central view in her research is that commonly used theorizing methods which evaluate change often rely on a privileged understanding of the world, carrying presumptions of stability, predictability, and control. This stands in contrast to the precarity that typifies the social worlds and life experiences of the majority. Clare's PhD thesis explored the study of youth sexual behaviour change and empowerment interventions in Tanzania. She has received an ESRC Impact Acceleration grant that aimed to co-design a comic with young people from Tanzania and the UK, which promotes youth discussions around precarity and distorted perceptions of relationships. Clare is particularly interested in broader explorations of coloniality, precarity, futurity, and relationalities. She holds a PhD in Social Psychology from the London School of Economics and Political Science and has taught various modules at King’s College London.
