Biography

Clarissa Cortland is an Assistant Professor in the Organisations Innovation Group at University College London (UCL) School of Management. Before joining UCL, she was a post-doctoral research fellow at INSEAD, where she conducted research for the INSEAD Gender Initiative in Singapore. Clarissa holds a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Her research takes a multi-method, multi-level approach, drawing on social psychological theory regarding social identity, intergroup relations, and stereotyping to gain insight into organizational behavior processes and outcomes. Her ultimate goal is to reduce identity-based biases and promote diversity in organizational settings. Cortland's research program addresses crucial questions such as: (1) what motivates individuals to support and promote diversity and inclusion in organizations? and (2) how can diverse organizations maintain and foster inclusive workplaces that enable individuals from underrepresented and disadvantaged social identities to succeed and thrive in their roles?
