Biography

Colin Rhinesmith is an associate professor and director of the Digital Equity Action Research (DEAR) Lab in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Rhinesmith's research focuses on community informatics, engaged scholarship, and information policy, with a particular interest in working with civil society organizations, government agencies, and philanthropic organizations to advance digital equity through community-engaged participatory research projects. Previously, he was the founder and director of the Digital Equity Research Center at the Metropolitan New York Library Council and has held multiple fellowships, including the Google Policy Fellow and Senior Fellow at the Benton Institute for Broadband & Society. Rhinesmith's research has been funded by various organizations such as the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Benton Institute for Broadband & Society, and the Comcast Corporation. He received his PhD in Library Information Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
