Dr. Corey Pompey

Biography

Corey Pompey is an Associate Teaching Professor and Associate Director of Bands at the Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was appointed as the Associate Director of Bands in Spring 2019, succeeding longtime director Mike Leckrone. Before this role, he served as an Assistant Professor of Music and Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Nevada-Reno. He also has experience as the Assistant Director of Bands at Pennsylvania State University, where he assisted with the Penn State Marching Blue Band and conducted the Concert Band. Additionally, he taught undergraduate conducting and supervised student teachers. Prior to his academic career, Pompey was an Assistant Instructor at the University Bands at the University of Texas at Austin, where he played a significant role in the creative and administrative aspects of the program, including the University of Texas Wind Ensemble and The Longhorn Band. Originally from Alabama, he spent seven years teaching in public schools before moving to Texas. Pompey holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts degree in Music Education from The University of Alabama, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Wind Conducting from the University of Texas. His principal conducting teachers include Jerry F. Junkin, Kenneth Ozzello, and Gerald L. Welker. He is affiliated with the College Band Directors National Association and Phi Mu Alpha.
