Biography

Courtney Snyder is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, where she conducts the University Concert Band and teaches undergraduate and graduate instrumental conducting. In her role, she aids in the administration of the Michigan Bands program and serves as the Music Director of the Michigan Youth Symphonic Band. Previously, Snyder held various positions at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, including Assistant Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands, where she conducted the 'Maverick' Marching Band and the Concert Band. Her teaching experience extends to high schools and middle schools across Michigan, where she directed bands and orchestras. Snyder is active as a guest conductor and clinician, presenting at national and international conferences. Her research interests include conducting pedagogy and promoting equity for women and BIPOC composers and conductors. She has received multiple awards for her contributions to music education and has published works in various professional journals. Snyder earned her degrees from the University of Michigan, Baylor University, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
