Biography

Crispin Thurlow joined the Department of English at the University of Bern in August 2014. With a background in psychology from South Africa and theatre from England, he previously spent a decade at the University of Washington in the USA, where he held appointments in communication, linguistics, and anthropology as a full professor within the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences. In 2007, he received the university's highest honour for teaching excellence, the Distinguished Teaching Award. Before moving to North America, he lived in Wales, where he held a lectureship at the Centre for Language and Communication Research at Cardiff University, completing his doctorate. In 2026, he was appointed as the Ander Visiting Professor in Geomedia Studies at Karlstad University in Sweden.
