Biography

Cristina Mio is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education at the University of Glasgow. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Università di Padova, Italy. Her research and teaching experience encompass a wide range of educational contexts, from secondary education to higher education. Cristina has taught Mathematics at several institutions including Loreto Sixth Form College, South Lanarkshire College, and the Open University. Currently, she is involved in the Post-Graduate Diploma Education (PGDE) program as a joint programme leader. Her research interests focus on deep and surface approaches to learning in mathematics and engineering education, student autonomy and self-regulation, and the influence of teacher attitudes on student motivation and confidence. She has actively participated in various funded projects aimed at enhancing mathematics education practices and improving pre-service teachers' understanding of instructional strategies. Cristina is a member of academic professional bodies and has received teaching excellence awards, highlighting her commitment to improving mathematics education.
