Biography

Crystal Cenell Tyson is a board-certified nephrologist and certified clinical hypertension specialist specializing in the treatment of patients with kidney disorders and high blood pressure. With a clinical focus on slowing the progression of chronic kidney disease and reducing cardiovascular disease complications through lifestyle modifications, she enjoys treating patients with severe hypertension and finding effective medication regimens. Tyson sees patients two days a week at the Duke Nephrology Clinic and Duke Nephrology Hypertension Clinic. Her research interests include reducing racial health disparities among patients with hypertension and chronic kidney disease using lifestyle modifications. Past and current research by Tyson investigates dietary effects, such as the DASH diet and sodium reduction, exercise, and weight loss on blood pressure and kidney function. Furthermore, she studies the effects of bilateral renal artery denervation on blood pressure management.
