Cynthia Finelli is the David C. Munson, Jr. Professor of Engineering at the University of Michigan, where she also holds a courtesy appointment in the Marsal Family School of Education. With a focus on increasing faculty adoption of evidence-based instruction, her research identifies ways to support students with neurodiversities, such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and promotes students’ sense of social responsibility within engineering coursework. Professor Finelli is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). She has held several editorial roles, including deputy editor for the Journal of Engineering Education and associate editor for the European Journal of Engineering Education and IEEE Transactions on Education. Professor Finelli has also been actively involved in various leadership roles within engineering education organizations, including chairing the Engineering Education Chairs and Heads Association and co-chairing the ASEE Committee on Scholarly Publications. She founded the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching in Engineering at the University of Michigan in 2003 and served as its director for 12 years. Cynthia Finelli holds B.S.E., M.S.E., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
