Dr. Daniel Vélez Ortiz

Biography

Daniel Vélez Ortiz is an Associate Professor at Michigan State University in the School of Social Work. He holds a PhD from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, an MSW from the same institution, and a BA from Purdue University. His expertise includes mental health services for older adults, particularly within Latino communities, as well as issues surrounding immigration and racial ethnic status. Dr. Vélez Ortiz focuses on integrating systems of care, examining organizational factors, and utilizing health technology applications in social work practice. His commitment to diversity in higher education enhances his approach to teaching and research. He has published several articles, including works on the intersection of Alzheimer’s disease in the Latino community and the relationship between chronic pain attitudes and suicide among Latino and non-Hispanic white elders.
