Biography

Danielle Bobker is a Professor in the English Department at Concordia University, where she also serves as a Fellow at the Simone de Beauvoir Institute and Women's Studies. Her academic interests span 17th and 18th-century literature and culture, critical humor studies, gender and sexuality studies, and pedagogy. She completed her BA with Honours in English and Drama, as well as her BEd, both from the University of Toronto. She earned her MA in English from Concordia University and her PhD in English from Rutgers University. Bobker's research includes a focus on the ways in which intimate spaces, termed 'closets', shaped interpersonal relationships in eighteenth-century Britain, as discussed in her book 'Closet: Eighteenth-Century Architecture Intimacy' released by Princeton University Press in 2020. She is currently engaged in a project analyzing the Supreme Court of Canada's 2021 ruling in favor of comedian Mike Ward, which raises critical questions about harmful humor. Bobker is passionate about teaching and supervising doctoral students, eager to explore intersections among critical humor studies, satire studies, and the cultural material of the 18th century.
