Dr. Danny Martinez

Biography

Danny C. Martinez is a Professor in the School of Education at the University of California, Davis, where he also serves as a Chancellor’s Fellow. His research focuses on the experiences of Black Latinx youth in literacy learning contexts, emphasizing cultural, racial, and linguistic aspects. The impact of his work is evident in his commitment to leveraging the rich communicative resources of youth in educational settings, which is informed by his experiences as a literacy teacher in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. He teaches graduate courses on qualitative methods and ethnography and engages in teacher education courses that address literacy and language. Additionally, he offers undergraduate courses that explore the contributions of Chicanx and Latinx communities to educational contexts. His scholarship includes a variety of publications related to discourse analysis and sociocultural approaches to learning, along with a strong interest in ethnographic studies that highlight the interactions and educational needs of Black Latina/o youth.
