Biography

Davena Jackson is an Assistant Professor in the Wheelock College of Education & Human Development at Boston University, specializing in English education and urban education. With over 20 years of experience as an English Language Arts teacher, her work focuses on addressing anti-Blackness and promoting equity within secondary English classrooms. An interdisciplinary scholar and critical qualitative researcher, Jackson explores how teachers' commitments to justice shape their curricular and pedagogical decisions, ultimately transforming English language arts education. She has been awarded the 2023 National Academy Education (NAEd) Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship and serves on the Executive Committee of the English Language Arts Teacher Educators (ELATE) within the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Additionally, she is a faculty affiliate at the Center on the Ecology of Early Development (CEED) and a research affiliate at the Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University. Jackson's research contributions to language literacy studies and English education have been published in various journals, including Reading Research Quarterly and the Journal of Literacy Research.
