Dr. David Berg

Biography

David N. Berg is an organizational psychologist with special interests in group and intergroup relations. He received a BA in Psychology and an MA in Administrative Sciences from Yale University, followed by a PhD in Organizational Psychology from the University of Michigan. Between 1977 and 1992, Dr. Berg was a professor at the Yale School of Organization and Management (SOM), where he taught courses in organizational behavior, group dynamics, research methods, and organizational diagnosis. He was awarded the SOM Alumni Award for excellence in teaching in 1990. Additionally, Dr. Berg served in several administrative roles, including Director of Professional Studies for the master’s program in public and private management and Director of Graduate Studies in the doctoral program for organizational behavior. In 1992, he opened a private practice in organizational psychology, while continuing to consult for various organizations and teach executive programs in university classrooms. He has worked with private corporations, non-profit organizations, and public sector agencies, striving to maintain connections between theory and practice. Currently, Dr. Berg is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, where he helps residents, fellows, and faculty develop their understanding of groups and organizations. His contributions have earned him several awards, including the Psychiatry Residents Association Teaching Award (2005–2008) and recognition as an Outstanding Clinical Faculty member in 2010. Furthermore, he served as Deputy Editor of the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science from 1994 to 2004 and is the author of several notable publications related to organizational development and group life.
