Biography

David Liu is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream, in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. He has been an integral part of the department, currently serving as Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies. Born in Ottawa, David completed his undergraduate studies in Mathematics at the University of Waterloo, where he found inspiration from faculty members such as Levent Tuncel and Andrew Childs. He later pursued a Master's degree at the University of Toronto in the Theory Group under supervisors Toni Pitassi and Steve Cook. He joined the University as a permanent teaching-stream faculty member in July 2015. His commitment to education has been recognized with several awards, including the University of Toronto Early Career Teaching Award in 2018 and the Arts & Science Outstanding Teaching Award. He collaborates with colleagues on initiatives such as the Embedded Ethics Education Initiative and has won the D2L Award for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. David is passionate about teaching and enhancing the educational experience for his students.
