Biography

David O'Sullivan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the London School of Economics, joining the faculty in September 2024. He earned his PhD degree in Mathematics from the University of Sheffield, where his dissertation focused on 'Topological C*-Categories' under the supervision of Dr. Paul Mitchener. Prior to his current position, David was a lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, progressing to senior lecturer and course lead for the BSc Mathematics programme, as well as principal lecturer and subject group lead for the Physical and Mathematical Engineering Sciences group. His research expertise centers on non-commutative geometry and topology, category theory, and mathematical pedagogy, specifically the application of these fields in modeling complex systems, surface science, and combinatorial games. David is also interested in the pedagogical use of recreational mathematics in higher education.
