Biography

David Perry is an internationally acclaimed violinist and a distinguished member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison faculty since 1995. He holds the Paul Collins Endowed Professorship and is the concertmaster of the Chicago Philharmonic. With extensive performances at Carnegie Hall and numerous other major cultural venues in North and South America, Europe, and the Far East, Perry also participates as an artist-faculty at the Aspen Music Festival and School, where he has been active for nearly two decades. He was a founding violinist of the Aspen String Trio and has collaborated with prestigious musicians and ensembles across the globe. Perry has a rich discography, with recordings released under notable labels such as Delos, Naxos, and Albany. His contributions to music have been recognized through various awards, including being named a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts. A native of Illinois, he has trained under prominent instructors such as John Kendall, Almita Vamos, and Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School, and he plays a 1711 Franciscus Gobetti violin, thanks to the Nathan McClure Opportunities Fund.
