Biography

David Plank is a Professor (Research) Emeritus at the Stanford Graduate School of Education. He co-directs the Lemann Center for Educational Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Brazil, and has served as the Executive Director of Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE) for 11 years until his retirement in 2018. Plank has held faculty positions at Michigan State University, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Texas at Dallas, where he taught courses and conducted research focused on educational finance policy. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1983 and has authored or edited six books including the AERA Handbook on Education Policy Research, publishing extensively in economics of education, history of education, and educational policy. His current research interests include the role of state education systems and the relationship between academic research and public policy. Additionally, Plank has worked as a consultant for various international organizations such as the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program, focusing on educational issues in Africa and Latin America.
