Biography

Denis Jiron, based in Los Angeles, California, has a multifaceted career that encompasses both performance and education. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Trombone at the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University. Jiron has performed with numerous symphony orchestras and renowned artists, showcasing his versatility across various music genres, including symphonic, pop, and Afro-Cuban. He held significant positions such as the acting second trombone for the Los Angeles Philharmonic during the 2017-2018 season and principal trombone with the Riverside Philharmonic and Hofer Symfoniker. He has been a guest artist with esteemed orchestras like the LA Opera, Sapporo Symphony, and Detroit Symphony. In addition to his performance career, Jiron has contributed to the academic field by offering adjunct positions at California State University, Los Angeles, and California State University, San Bernardino. He founded and directed the Afro-Cuban orchestra Rumbankete and released an album in 2011. Jiron earned his BM from California State University Northridge, an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts, and a DMA from Michigan State University as a University Distinguished Fellow.
