Dr. Denyse Hayward

Biography

Denyse Hayward is a Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta, specializing in Educational Psychology. Her professional journey began as a speech-language pathologist, working in clinical and educational settings to support young children with speech and language delays. She completed doctoral studies at the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, focusing on narrative comprehension in young children with language impairments. Denyse has also completed post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Alberta, enhancing her research profile. Her research encompasses the development of evidence-based assessment protocols for students from vulnerable populations, with an emphasis on addressing challenges faced by deaf and hard-of-hearing students. She is also involved in studies examining teachers’ perceptions of students with disabilities and the implications for inclusive education. Denyse's work aims to bridge theory and practice in teacher education, ensuring that preservice teachers are equipped to meet the needs of all students in inclusive settings.
