Biography

Derrick Fox is a Professor and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Creative Endeavors at Michigan State University College of Music, where he also serves as the Associate Director of Choral Programs. With extensive experience in choral conducting, he has taught at various educational levels and has been involved in educational initiatives that enrich student experiences. Before joining Michigan State University, Dr. Fox was the Director of Choral Activities and Distinguished Professor of Music at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and an Assistant Professor of Choral Music at Ithaca College. He has conducted regional and national choirs across the United States and has participated in international choral concerts and residencies. His professional highlights include conducting the 2019 National ACDA Middle School/Junior High Mixed Honor Choir and leading workshops as an ACDA International Conductor Exchange Fellow in South Africa. In addition to his conducting activities, he has collaborated with various symphony orchestras and published choral compositions and arrangements through renowned publishers. Dr. Fox has been recognized with awards such as the 2021 Bryan R. Johnson Service Award from the Nebraska Music Educators Association and the 2022 University of Nebraska Omaha Award for Distinguished Research/Creative Activity. He is also an active writer and radio show host, focusing on amplifying diverse voices within the classical music landscape.
