Dhiraj Murthy is a Professor in the School of Journalism and Media and the Department of Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his PhD in Sociology from the University of Cambridge and previously served as a Reader of Sociology at Goldsmiths, University of London. His research explores digital research methods, race and ethnicity, qualitative and mixed methods, big data quantitative analysis, and virtual organizations. Murthy has edited three special issues of academic journals and authored over 70 articles, book chapters, and papers. He published a scholarly book titled "Twitter", second edition, by Polity Press in 2018. His work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation's Advanced Cyberinfrastructure, among other divisions. Additionally, he investigates the role of social technologies in promoting diversity and community inclusion. Murthy founded and directs the Computational Media Lab at the University of Texas at Austin.
